In 19th-century France, butter was pressed into intricately carved molds so that even an everyday provision could arrive at the table dressed for the occasion. Found in Avignon, it’s hand carved floral design sits inside a deep, scalloped cavity, with small iron fastenings still at the ends. The wood is wonderfully worn, down to the little holes and marks gathered over the years. We’d display it open on a kitchen counter or even as a unique coffee table piece.
