Made for everyday use, this vessel could have been left plain. Instead, someone took the time to draw a band of fine lines around its shoulders, adding a little beauty to an otherwise practical pot. Those lines remain, circling the warm terracotta beneath two tall handles, while pale markings and darker patches spread across the clay.
Today, we’d place it beside an old wooden chest or a linen chair, with a few long branches reaching above the rim. Somewhere those small choices, made so long ago, can still be appreciated.
