Sometimes the loveliest pattern is the one left behind. On this two-handled vessel, the pale surface has worn away in wandering trails and little islands, revealing warm clay beneath.
There is much to love here, but it was the surface that held our attention, rough and weathered in places, smooth in others, different from every side. We’d leave it empty beside an old wooden cabinet, somewhere the afternoon light can find it.
