Before it was a piece to bring home for its beauty, this oversized Konya pot had a practical place in a Turkish household, made to hold and store provisions. Still, someone took the time to draw a wavy line around its shoulders and finish its mouth in deep red glaze, letting it spill down the clay in uneven trails. Those choices are what we love about it now, softened by years of wear against a pale, earthy surface.
Today, we’d give it a place beside a well-loved cabinet or at the foot of a staircase, perhaps with a few tall branches. Somewhere its shape and beautiful red glaze can be enjoyed every day.
